When you first find out that you have an upcoming relocation to Laredo Texas, one of your first decisions is whether to look at new homes in Laredo Texas or existing homes in Laredo Texas. You can also contract to have a home built to your specifications. While it may be tempting to build a new home from scratch, you have to factor in the stress of not having a permanent home during the months of construction. You may want to consider “spec” homes that builders have almost completed. This will give you the freedom to choose colors and styles, but will also enable you to move into your new home shortly after your relocation to Laredo Texas. I have friends that lived in a 2 room efficiency motel for 5 ½ months (with 2 children and a dog!) while their home was being built. She told me that she would never do that again. She loved having a new home, but has decided that if she ever moves across country again, she will not subject her family to that experience again.

The town of Laredo was founded in 1755 while the area was part of a region called Nuevo Santander in the Spanish colony of New Spain. In 1840, Laredo was the capital of the independent Republic of the Rio Grande, set up in rebellion to the dictatorship of Antonio López de Santa Anna and brought back into Mexico by military force. In 1846, during the Mexican-American War the town was occupied by the Texas Rangers. After the war the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo ceded the land to the United States. A referendum was taken in the town, which voted overwhelmingly to petition the American military government in charge of the area to return the town to Mexico. However, this petition was rejected, and in response the bulk of the population moved over the river into Mexican territory to found the new town of Nuevo Laredo. In 1849, the military set up Fort McIntosh (originally Camp Crawford) by the town. -- Source: Wikipedia.com
